May 1 '11:  Since I all too often have pointed out to you the continuing fashion horrors of MyButt, I thought I would take a break and show you a fashion "Gold Star" !

I know you boys don't care all that much for this stuff, but, I guarantee every woman in your life does.  SO, read and learn!!

No, I did not wake at 4 am to watch Kate and Billy get hitched, but I have looked at photos with great interest.

This wedding was the height of elegant simplicity.

With all the attention, the huge church, the 2000 guests, the horse drawn carriages, the history; I think the tendency is to over do it with the gown.   I can only hope this gown takes us back to a trend for brides to look feminine, graceful, dignified and classic.

Currently many brides look like mermaids in a corset, with gowns that are barely clinging to their boobs.  I always think if the bride takes a deep breath, the whole dress will fall down to her knees.

Yes, I know most brides are not a size 2, cannot borrow a 72 year old diamond tiara from the mother in law,  and cannot order hand cut English lace, but they can look this elegant. This dress is sexy in the old fashion sense that being sexy does not mean you have to show anything.

The bouquet was perfection. It did not look like it should be draping a casket but was thoughtfully designed with flowers that had meaning.

The flowers' meanings in the bouquet are:
Lily-of-the-valley - Return of happiness
Sweet William - Gallantry
Hyacinth - Constancy of love
Ivy - Fidelity; marriage; wedded love; friendship; affection
Myrtle - the emblem of marriage; love. The myrtle came from a plant in one of the Queens' gardens that has been there for centuries and used in many royal wedding bouquets.

All in all, I cannot come up with one thing that I would change.

The real star of the wedding was the Maid of Honor - The bride's sister Pippa.

She was stunning in this modern, sophisticated classic dress. This dress is the one I think will be knocked-off the most for a wedding dress. Again, it is elegantly sexy without being revealing. The Lily of the Valley cascade in her hair was lovely and just the right touch.

I love that there was just a Maid of Honor and Best Man. The idea of a cast of thousand wedding party has never appealed to me.

What is better then a man in a uniform?? Well, honestly, I can hardly think of anything more dashing!  The children were surprisingly well behaved, though some were rather unfortunate in looks.  This is a tradition I love, though it risky.

I know it is tradition for the English women to wear hats to weddings... but,

I must say that these two, the Princesses wh
o are Fergie's daughters, have apparently gone to the same fashion school as MyButt.  (I just had to get that in!!)

...... until next time.

Agree with your opinion on brides and how elegant the wedding was carried out. I did wake at 4:00 to watch everything. It was done beautifully, to say the least. I was even texting with my BFF from high school up there in Durham. We were both having our tea and crumpets. I have worked in a bridal salon on a part-time basis for eight years and can tell you, you're right. The trend now seems to be the "mermaid" look with most brides not being the size 2 or 4 it takes to pull it off. I also long for the days of grace and elegance to be brought back to the runways and think this event may very well do that.

Excellent review and 100 % agree with your viewpoint. First time reading your work but won't be last. My wife loves the audio books and we've listened to several. Keep up the good work!
